If part of your discontent at work or with your present career is financial, you may want to think about how much money is enough, and then read this.  According to research, earning beyond $75K per household doesn't add to self-evaluations of happiness.  So if you are making $50K and long to find a job that will earn $250K, you may be ruling out a lot of jobs that could be fulfilling and give you enough compensation. 

(I have a hard time thinking that this magic number doesn't need to be adjusted for each family depending upon needs and location.  (A family of 4 in NYC compared to a childless couple in rural Kansas are apples and oranges financially.)  Still, it's good to consider what your $$$ target is based on.)
