Hi OC,

I've been driving the freeways for many years, and here in California we have the worst as you well know. That said, I absolutely hate to drive through Las Vegas anymore, it's like 'Mr. Toad's Wildride'! The one thing I do enjoy is seeing the highway patrol officers hiding in the slops that run along side of the highway going out of Nevada and into Arizona and Utah. These guys will scream past a line of cars, get out of their cruisers and pull people over. I've seen as many as 15 vehicles pulled over waiting to receive tickets, with a second cruiser to catch anyone who tries to leave.

My Dad used to commute for 2 1/2 hours from Utah into Las Vegas when he worked as a test pilot for Northrop. It's a very long boring drive and he had a tendency to hit the gas pedal just in time for a cruiser to pick him up. He finally installed Jet Aircraft radar in his car, they still caught him, some people never learn, especially those with a need for speed.

I also hate driving into Las Vegas from Southern California, the most dangerous highway in existence! The CHP do an excellent job of nailing speeders, or those idiots who pull up on your bumper during a wind storm when you can't see more than 5 miles ahead. You get into an accident on that stretch of highway, it's usually involves a
fatality.

Wouldn't you think people driving the small sports cars would be especially careful in the jungle of SUV's surrounding them on the highways, they don't care!

Tango, I step on the accelerator from Halloran Summit. This is the last summit you reach before you start your down grade into the town of Primm, Nevada where you can see the casinos at stateline. Sometimes I start as early as Zzyzxx Road - Tango, remember this road? It is pronounced Ziz-zits.

When you drive in the desert, you always get these yahoos who are so excited to get to Vegas that they really pour it on! The California Highway Patrol has TWO resident officers patrolling from stateline to Barstow at any given time BUT they also have an airplane can is pretty good at catching speeders too so what out.

That drive from Las Vegas, through Mesquite and into Utah is boring. I drove from Las Vegas to Salt Lake City and it was nothing but desert! So I can only imagine why people speed in this area.

I was watching a cable news network that showed the traffic mess in S. California as it is undergoing a huge rain storm this evening. People see rain and they speed up thinking it is safe to drive like a maniac on wet pavement. Then you see them hydroplaning and causing a huge traffic jam.

I wonder if these people ever think of the consequences of causing an accident. Do they ever think what their spectacle causes in backed up traffic, workers arriving late for work or causing other drivers delays because they were selfish and didn't slow down?

All that stuff happens behind them and they could probably care less.  People like that are too self absorbed to take anyone else into consideration... not even their passengers who could be injured or killed because of their carelessness.

I was getting onto the freeway one morning and while getting up to freeway speed I glanced backwards to see what freeway traffic was looking like and where I could merge in so that I could adjust my speed accordingly.   I hadn't noticed that the moron in front of me decided to come to a complete stop at the end of the ramp and almost creamed her.  I had to go onto the berm to avoid a collision with her.  Some people should not be allowed to drive.  She actually stopped and then pulled out into speeding traffic in front of all those cars.  They were swerving all over the place trying to avoid hitting her.  And do you think for so much as a split second that she cared about the dangerous condition she was putting not only herself but every other driver on the road at that time into? Most likely not.  She kept on a going just ignoring all the horns honking and tires screeching behind her.
