Hi All,

I am doing part-time teaching assistant work at a university, but I'm unsure how to list my job title on my resume. Technically, my title is "Non/Exempt Temporary or Casual." Is this what I should put on my resume? It's not very descriptive. Is it dishonest to list my title as "Teaching Assistant?"

Your help is appreciated!

If that is the extend of your duties, I wouldn't consider it dishonest. Your actual title is so general, that including it would put me off if I was a recruiter.

Hi gelpunch - I agree with stijnhommes - using your official title isn't a good idea in your case as it's too generic (sounds more like a classification than a job title), so I would use "teaching assistant." Hope that helps!

Hi Kim & stijnhommes,

Thanks for the advice - I feel better about my resume now. I wouldn't want anyone to think I'm deliberately trying to mislead them.

Hi gelpunch - You're welcome and I'm glad you feel better about your resume! I think you would be doing hiring managers a favor by including the "teaching assistant" title, otherwise your role would be very unclear.
Best wishes,
