    • Hi Kim, question on job application.

Hi Kim,

I have a question regarding a job application.

There is a position posted on a company's career page for an account management position.

It requires at least 8 years of account management experience.

I have about 2-4 years experience within account management.

My question is:

Although I do not have 8 years of account management experience, is it advisable to still apply for the position?

Thank you.

When a company posts a job opening, they won't just ask for experience. They'll ask for other skills as well. Make sure that if you apply, you show how you fit or exceed other requirements so you can make up for any deficiency in experience.

Also, if you apply, show you read the job post and address it head on. You don't want to give the impression you ignored your lack of experience or perhaps can't follow direction.

If you do both of those, I would advice you to apply, but Kim might have another opinion.

Thank you for your feedback.

I forgot to mention that I did apply to the company last year.

However, it was for a HR position.

The recruiter did email me saying that I was a good candidate, but the company was interviewing

other candidates with experience.

I do have a mutual connection on LinkedIn with this recruiter.

My question is:

How would I connect to the recruiter after being rejected for a previous job?

Thank you.

Some questions:
Would that mutual connection be a good reference for you?

Also, be honest and answer me this: if you compare the HR position to this new one and take everything together, then for which job do you feel you were more qualified at the time of applying, this one or the previous one?

Thanks for the message.

I did speak to the mutual connection today, but she informed me that she did not know the recruiter too well.

In regards to your second question, I researched more about the position.

I saw LinkedIn profiles of people who hold this position, but their past experience included junior and even middle manager account management positions.

Although I did not have experience with payroll systems, I was more qualified for the HR position since it was closer to my 2-4 years of experience.

Thanks again.

Hi EPNY,

I recommend applying for the position even though you don't have the required experience. You could still be considered for the position if you have a strong resume focused on your account management skills and show potential to excel in this role.
Best wishes,
