Does anyone have experience getting an adjunct teaching job without much teaching experience. I work professionally in the field that I want to teach and don't have much teaching experience. I am working on highlighting "on the job" teaching and training I provide to others, but I want to make sure my resume is formatted correctly for an adjunct job and how to best showcase what I have to offer. Much of my past experience integrates the similar strengths and skills so I don't want to be too redundant in listing each job with similar attributes. Any format suggestions or general tips for getting into part time adjunct teaching?

Hi kcfisch3,

Thank you for posting to this forum!

You're on the right track by highlighting teaching/training experiences, but you should also emphasize your subject matter expertise. The school would most likely be interested in your industry success and hands-on knowledge of the subject(s) you wish to teach. So include accomplishments, accolades, awards, contributions in the field you would like to teach. You can also highlight your own academic achievement such as honors, scholarships, and a high GPA.

Your cover letter will be equally important -- you need to explain why you are seeking an adjunct teaching position and what you offer the institution.
Best wishes,
