Hello,

Is it a good idea, or even necessary, to include the number of years of experience you have with regard to certain skills you have acquired over the years, on your resume?

For instance, I have included on my resume's summary section, the following:

  • more than 3 years of experience in CADD
  • 2 years of experience in administrative support and customer service
  • nearly 2 years of experience in process engineering (which I'm still undergoing)

And yes, I know that one must tailor their resume to the specific job that is desired, or appled to, but I'm asking this in the general sense.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks.

Hi arv1in,

Great question! The best approach depends on the requirements of the jobs you're targeting. If you're applying for positions that frequently request 2 years of CADD experience, it would look good to state that you have 3+ years of CADD experience. However, you could be overlooked for jobs that prefer that applicants have 5 years of experience. Check out the job ads first before outlining your exact level of experience.
Best wishes,
