I am confused about how long a resume should be as I have read suggestions ranging from no more than one page to as many as three pages or eve more. I would appreciate any advice about the ideal length.

The one page rule is out-of-date.  Look at these online apps today - they go on forever.

 Two to three pages for a resume is about average today but you need to specifically address the position and the job requirements today.  A one-size-fits-all resume is also out-of-date.
