So I'm looking for a new job and need help with rewriting my resume. At my current job I do all the duties of an assistant manager but don't have the title. It's a small photography studio so we don't have the business to have an "Assistant Manager" yet. The Studio was recently open a few months ago but I've been with the company for about a year now. So can I put I'm the assistant manager even though I dont have the title? Here's my current resume that I've been using. Any help would be great

Hi jones987angel,

It's not a good idea to assign yourself a title, especially if your actual title will come up in background searches. Would you be able to officially get the assistant manager title by discussing with your supervisor? If that's not a possibility, you can try something like this:
Photographer/Sales Associate (functioning as assistant manager), dates

Here are a few additional tips for your resume:

- Reorder your work history. It's better to lead with your current position and go backwards in time.

- Add your career goal. Give employers a clear idea of your objective.

- Add a qualifications summary. This section kicks off your resume and showcases your strongest, most relevant qualifications.

- Add more accomplishments. As you have taken on managerial responsibilities, give some indication of your relevant accomplishments in your work history section. How has the company benefited from your leadership skills? What have been some of the outcomes of your work?

I hope this helps! Wishing you good luck.
Best wishes,

Thanks for the advise. Do you have an example of a resume so I can see what you mean? I'm having a hard time understanding what you mean by qualifications summary and career goal. Because I was told my a few teachers that I didn't need a career goal. So I was wander have I been writing wrong the whole time or had making resumes changes from 3 years ago.

Hi jones987angel,

Sure, here is a link to a sample resume for a retail manager (the first few bullets summarize the person's strongest credentials):

Monster has hundreds of samples you can review -- they all have a career goal, and most (if not all) have a qualifications summary section:

I hope this helps!
