Hi bettina702,

Thank you for posting your resume to this forum! I think you have an excellent start. Here are a couple of suggestions for improvement:

- Add a summary section. Right now, you are diving into your work history without introducing yourself and relaying your strongest qualifications. Instead, create a short summary that includes your career goal and highlights of your most impressive credentials.

- Make your accomplishments stand out. You have listed very impressive accomplishments, but they are hard to find within long bulleted lists. For example, you catapulted a poet's worldwide exposure to receive thousands of daily visitors (or hits) at no cost -- that is buried as your job's 7th bullet. Include more examples of how your marketing and management expertise led to positive outcomes for your company and clients, and make sure they are listed prominently.

I hope this is helpful. Good luck to you!

Best wishes,
Kim Isaacs

Hello Kim!

Thanks very much for your advice. I have some questions regarding the summary. I had a summary and a bulleted list of "Areas Of Strength" in my resume, but a recruiter told me recently that I should take it out and integrate the info from those two sections into the bullets of the resume and to add the "Skills" sections. I am confused by the mixed advice I am getting! Is it important for some jobs to have the summary and some not? Or is it an individual preference? This was a Marketing Manager position that I was recruited for.

Again, thanks very much. I will definitely take your advice!

All the best,

Bettina

Hi Bettina,

You're very welcome. I understand that it's frustrating when you receive mixed advice. That happens often in the field of resume writing as there are very few set "rules." Recruiters often have their own way that they like to present their candidates, so it's best to change your resume based on their suggestions for that particular opportunity. You should still keep your other version that has summary/skills sections, as employers would more likely appreciate the introductory sections.

Best wishes,
