Is it okay to pad my resume with courses that I took online via open course ware? These courses are free and no credit is given. I do feel that I have learned essential information and would like to acknowledge those courses. However, I'm wondering if employers frown on that or if using these courses will make me loose credibility.

If it is okay to cite them, what is the best way to do that? Would a put them under the Education section?

I took courses at gcflearnfree --if you have other sites, please share--and put them with dates in continuing education. Mind you, I was trying to fill a time gap with software I largely knew, but I learned some stuff too. If you are using it to say, learn web-app skills, then applying for jobs using the skills, you're talking a different angle, and the employer will decide if your education is sufficient for their needs.

Hi angelineE,

Yes, even free online courses are valuable if you improved your skills! You can include the studies in your Education section or in a specialized skills section. The best way to list these courses would depend on what you would like to emphasize, but here are a couple of options:

Professional Development
-----------------------------------
Completed courses in intermediate MS Excel and PowerPoint, Course Sponsor, 2012

or

Technology Summary
----------------------------
Intermediate Excel and PowerPoint (completed training via Course Sponsor, 2012)
Best wishes,
