Hello. I'm an IT Graduate since late 2010 and I'm having great difficulties to get hired by a company. I was more interested in web development during my time at the university and wanted, as soon as finished my studies, to get into that field on a freelance basis. I did get a project to work in 2011, whereby a friend working in a company that commercialises ready-made garment contacted me to say that they wanted a website for their clothing range with possibility of e-commerce at a later stage. However, I was told they didn't want to pursue with it after a few weeks. I tried getting other works, but to no avail.
I fell sick later that year and took a break since I had lesions (from varicella) that were taking time to cicatrise. Seeing that it's difficult for me to find any web development work as freelance, I decided to get back to software development and look up a job in a company. However, looking at the requirements of the different companies, it was obvious I had to learn things by myself since most of the programming language and skills requirements were not covered at university. Hence, I have self-taught myself several programming languages.
Since mid 2012 I've been sending my CV to mainly software development companies, but out of the tens of companies contacted only a few got back to offer an interview. And one irritating thing is that they don't even bother acknowledge having received my CV.
Almost all companies advertising jobs are requiring prior experience in the development field and maybe that's the reason my CV isn't even getting to the HR.
Can you people help in drafting a cover letter that would help me obtain at least an interview despite not having the required work experience? Also, there are currently two job offers that are not requiring any experience and I would like some tips for the cover letter that I should send them.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
