Can anyone please help me figure out where I am going wrong?
Every time an employer asks for my resume I get no response and when this happens for dish washing jobs I know I must be doing something wrong. I have never had trouble getting hired immediately but ever since I started using this cover letter my resume seems worthless. Maybe there are major grammatical mistakes? Please help, I have contacted close to 100 employers for serving and/or dish washing jobs. I'm about ready to scrap my cover letter completely. Would anyone recommend that?
Thanks

Attention Samantha Haxxxxx:
My objective is to secure a position that offers the opportunity for learning and advancement in a challenging, rewarding, and dynamic working environment. I have gained most of my work experience through customer service and have practiced safe handling of food procedures during my time spent serving food and beverages. I consider myself professional and courteous with a willingness to learn and welcoming of criticism. I am confident that given the proper training; I can become a valuable asset to you. I prefer to remain non confrontational and easy going, although I prefer a steady workday that I can retain more fulfillment at the end of. I own my own transportation and enjoy a daily manageable routine. Because of this I do not consider tardiness an issue. I am currently saving to obtain a bachelor’s degree in public relations and therefore I am looking to supplement my current income from software maintenance and installation to bring myself closer to that goal. I want to work in an environment in which I can excel and be enthusiastic about what I do and how I do it. I am eager to leverage my experience for you and I’m sure I can bring a positive vibe to the workplace. I welcome the chance to meet you in person for a more detailed meeting. If you have any questions or need to contact me, please feel free to reach me at:

Thank you very much for considering me.

Hi henshadeusex,

I'm sorry to hear that you're not getting any responses from employers. I think your letter has some very good content and I like that it doesn't sound like a "canned" letter that was copied from a cover letter book. But you do need to do some editing. Here are some ideas:

- Use a standard salutation line, such as "Dear Ms. Haxxxxx:"

- Remove some of the information that's not terribly relevant. The first line is more like "fluff" and doesn't tell the reader what you're looking to do. I would remove the line about being non-confrontational, and especially the part about preferring a steady workday. The next line that talks about enjoying a routine should be edited as well. The key is to focus more on the employer and their needs vs. your needs.

- Add content that is relevant. First, think about setting up two letters - one for server jobs and another for dishwasher jobs. The server version can include skills such as customer service and ability to attract repeat customers. The dishwasher letter can highlight your cleaning skills and ability to work quickly during busy times. Check out sample job ads to see what employers are looking for in these positions - their requirements can help guide you through what you need to emphasize in your letter.

- Separate paragraphs. If your letter is one long paragraph (not sure if it formatted that way when you posted it here), separate into shorter paragraphs so that the content is easier to skim.

I hope this is helpful!
Best wishes,
